A nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses
get off the ground, grow, and achieve their goals.
Serving Beaufort, Colleton, Jasper, and Hampton counties
On Thursday, April 7, 2022, Rod Casavant, SCORE SC Lowcountry Chapter Chairman addressed the GIC General Membership meeting.
The Service Corporation of Retires Executives (SCORE) assists small business and non-profit clients in the Lowcountry. It supports clients from startup to exit and has outreach programs for minorities, women and veterans. SCORE does this through mentoring, education and tools.
SCORE’s trained and certified Business Mentors provide entrepreneurs and non-profits with personal attention, appropriate expertise and an understanding of the local market. In 2021, 333 new clients were mentored. The Local Chapter has aligned with the South Carolina Commission on Minority Affairs, the Native Island Business & Community Affairs Association and the Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce to build on their successes with their programs. It has also launched the Minority Small Business Awards Program, granting eleven awards of $2,500 each.
SCORE provides education through nonprofit and veteran entrepreneurs workshops. It sponsors workshop and webinars in QuickBooks and social media skills.
When asked how the GIC could help, Rod replied that spreading the word about SCORE, encouraging people to become Business Mentors, and making sure small businesses and nonprofits know how to contact SCORE would be most valuable.
